Keel Fish

The Fish is well known for its speed and capability in crossing flat and fat sections, its not just a simply design created to surf small and slow waves, his possibilities and limits are beyond to the most incredible feelings a surfboard can do, however people think its just an alternative board to surf mediocre waves, which is a common lack of education, instead back in the day, they challenged the most powerful waves using this design and had amazing feedback.  However the surfing community thought just by being a smaller and wider board promoted as a retro board, meaning not enough capabilities or different elements to be a performance board.

One of the most recognizable characteristics about this design is the effortless need of generating speed, the water flows fast and freely between the fins and at the end of the tail, the straight curve through the outline improves the hold on the wave, creating less drag and generating more speed through critical sections, his generous volume in such a small board helps in the paddle and also to stay high on top of the water.

The Traditional and Original Keel fin, shows the outcome to what completes and sparkles the ultimate ride of a fish, with a base twice the size of a regular fin, his template and curve are all about stability and control. Purchasing an extreme performance of the board the fins are single foiled and super flexible looking for quick and responsive turns. It is useless to say by riding a different set of fins or system, you wont achieve the same unique glide.

I carry the thoughts of improving the performance of this design on my shapes by adding more tail rocker, digging a concave through the middle of the board and vee-bottom through the fins, the rails can be down or modern, down rails generates lots of speed but are more stiff to turn, modern soft rails are more lose off the bottom and on turns.

Keel Fish range from 5´0 to 5´6 for an ultimate performance and for skilled surfers, if you are looking for a different type of approaching i would recommend something more suited to your style.
